About Me

My Family!

I am an artist, teacher, wife, and mother of four.  I have six years of experience in teaching art to K-6 grades at two different elementary schools.  In the past year because of budget costs my position of teaching art was cut.  So I am faced with how to supplement my family's income and still do what I have come to love.   I enjoyed being with students and helping them see the world around them.  When I was in elementary school reading and math were difficult for me, but I was good at art!  Back then school budgets didn't fund art in high school, so my parents made sure I took private lessons and every summer class I could get into.  Once I got into college I followed my other passion - interior design!   In 1988, I received my Bachelor's from Utah State University.  I  worked as an interior designer for many years.  Then after taking time off to have my children a opportunity came to me to teach art at my children's elementary school.  Those past art lessons came flooding back into my mind.  As I drew daily my own skills as an artist improved.  I came to love the energy in the classroom and seeing how my students improved.  I have come to strongly believe that we all need to nourish the creativity and imagination that is in each of us.  If we don't we become closed off and inhibited.   Carlo Thertus, founder of the CASK Foundation http://www.creativeartspaceforkids.org/, is quoted as saying, "Art develops creative intelligence."  It truly can!  In all our lives art becomes a way to communicate ideas and feelings.   It becomes a part of us.  Art teaches problem solving skills and  that we don't always have control of what happens. Fostering creativity in myself and others has become a passion!   This is why I am continuing to teach art!
